Safe Environment

A Safe Environment for All

“I have called you by name; you are mine.” (Isa 43:1) These words of God are addressed to every human person. With respect for this inherent dignity of each one, the monks of Westminster Abbey are committed to fostering a safe environment in which each one can develop according to his or her vocation in life. When anyone is abused, especially by a member of the monastic community, it brings us deep sorrow and prompts us to take all reasonable efforts to prevent its recurrence. Sexual misconduct and sexual abuse leave people deeply hurt for life. Accordingly, we are in the process of setting in place the necessary policy and accreditation with Praesidium, Inc., a risk prevention and compliance organisation, to prevent any future abuse. We have also set up a reporting line, where anyone who has suffered abuse from monks, teachers, employees, and/or volunteers of Westminster Abbey can safely find a hearing. The life of each person is precious to God and so also precious to us.
